Jayden turned to me. "I don't have much going on this afternoon, so I'll go with you to check out the new hospital."
He knew my condition was only temporarily stable and that the best chance of extending my life lay in transferring to a better hospital with a more professional medical team.
Looking at his tired face, I said softly, "There's no need. You should go home and rest. You've been working hard these days."
"Brat, why so polite with me?" He walked over to my bed and placed the breakfast he had been carrying on the bedside table. "I ran into the nurse in the hallway just now. She had to go home for something, so I brought your breakfast instead."
"Have you eaten yet?" Though I asked, I was already handing him a sandwich from the bag as soon as I picked it up. "You always told me eating on time prevents stomach problems."
