Sophia seemed unaware of Edison's distress. She pulled his hand away and turned to walk out of the ward.
This was the first time he truly realized that her feelings for him were not love or affection. He was merely a substitute in her heart, a pet that could be discarded if it didn't obey.
He wanted to argue with her, but deep down, he knew he had no right to. If he truly confronted her, their already fragile relationship might not survive.
As Sophia exited Edison's ward, she clearly heard his cries. She acted as if she heard nothing, walking directly across the hall to Joshua's ward and gently knocking on the door.
The knock was soft as if trying not to disturb anyone.
The next second, the door opened suddenly. Her gaze darkened, and her heart involuntarily tightened.
The person who opened the door was a nurse coming to check on Joshua, ensuring that he didn't harm himself again during the night.
"Is he still asleep?" Sophia asked softly, unable to stop her hand from tightening
