Chapter 33
"You're back, Mr. Reed." Benjamin greeted Calvin with a warm smile, taking his black coat and hanging it on the rack. "Please, have a seat. Mrs. Reed is preparing dinner for you."
Calvin raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Benjamin gestured toward the kitchen, and Calvin glanced over. Through the glass door, he saw Alexia's slender back as she moved about, busy in the kitchen.
"Did Grandpa tell her to cook?" he asked.
Benjamin shook his head. "Mr. Reed Senior isn't home. Once Mrs. Reed got in, she asked me what you liked to eat and went straight to the kitchen. She's been at it ever since. There aren't many women like Mrs. Reed these days, being so thoughtful and caring."
Calvin's eyes narrowed. He sank into the couch, silently watching her. What was Alexia really up to?
As time passed, the house remained quiet, except for the occasional chopping sounds from the kitchen.
