"A-Alright. This way, please," said the funeral director gingerly.
Finally, Tristan saw her.
Leticia lay on a narrow mortuary table, her face pale but peaceful. She looked as if she were in a deep sleep. Neither the footsteps of the undertaker moving around nor the hum of the freezers disturbed her in the slightest.
Tristan gazed at her quietly and called her name. "Leticia."
She didn't respond.
Tristan seemed a bit puzzled at her lack of response. He frowned as he called again, "Leticia, stop this. I know I made you mad. But doing this isn't right, is it? Don't punish me in this way."
His voice was soft as if he were afraid of waking someone from a dream.
