“Yes,” answered Hugh stoutly. “Understood,” Clifford responded dutifully before leaving. The moment Clifford turned away, he could feel his breathing ease significantly. Before Iris showed up, Hugh had always been someone who was very reserved and hardly wore his heart on his sleeve as if nothing in the world could perturb him. However, everything had changed since the reappearance of Iris. Hugh’s expression back there was beyond terrifying. After Clifford left, it fell silent again. Hugh still frowned deeply. He fished out a cigarette and clamped it between his lips. He subconsciously wanted to light it but quit in the end when he remembered that he was in a hospital.
