CHAPTER 78: BITTER PILL

It was a fresh morning, but the desire to go to the office wasn't there. Julia was around, and I could hear the clinking of pots in the sink; she was washing the dishes from the night before. I rested in the living room, absentmindedly watching football on the TV.
I focused on my phone for a while, feeling the awkward silence in the room. I glanced back to see Julia standing at the kitchen entrance, smiling at me.
I didn't respond, which made her pout. She walked over, slightly annoyed.
"I'm wearing a color you love," she said.
"I saw it."
"And?"
"It looks good on you."
"You don't mean that," she said, sitting down beside me.
I was lost in my own thoughts, not really paying attention to her presence.
"I'm here if you need anything," she said, tapping my shoulder as she stood up to leave.
"Uh..." I stopped her. She turned back, waiting for me to continue.
"I need you to go to the office," I said, though it wasn't what she wanted to hear.
