I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off as we drove home from the hospital. Charles had been acting strange ever since we left the doctor's office, and I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong. Monica had also seemed off when he saw her.
We rode in silence, but my mind was racing. He was hiding something from me, and I felt really uncomfortable.
His face was tight as he drove, and he tried to avoid looking at me.
I decided to let him be for now, knowing I would extract every bit of information from him once we got home.
As we got inside, Crystal was still with the kids. Charles helped me with my bags, and all I did when I entered was sink into a couch.
His face had not loosened up, so I decided to ask again. “Hey, Charles, is everything okay?” I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
He glanced at me briefly before focusing on what he carried. “Yeah, everything's fine. You're just overthinking everything.”
