Chapter 122
The mountainous path was winding and treacherous. One only had to lose focus for a second to accidentally fall or twist their leg. Tessa didn't suspect anything at first. After all, Jacqueline was still Stephen's younger sister when it came down to it. It made sense for him to check on her if she was hurt.
"Let's check on her," Tessa urged him.
"Okay."
Tessa and Stephen trailed behind Bailey as they retraced their footsteps back the way they came. They saw Jacqueline sitting on a rock by the path, biting down on her bottom lip as pained noises escaped her throat.
"What happened?" Stephen asked.
Jacqueline's eyes were wet with tears when she described what had happened. "I slipped on a small stone earlier and fell down. I think I twisted my ankle during the fall. It hurts so much."
