“Then…should I make the pain disappear?”
For some strange reason, his question brought about a weird sense of calm within her.
Perhaps it was the way he had asked it, or the fact that the tone of his voice had dropped an octave, or the fact that he was slowly, but surely closing the gap between them.
Amara’s brows furrowed. “How?”
She watched as his eyes darkened and his hands moved down, one stopping at her hip while the other trailed lower, but cautiously so.

“Do you want the pain to disappear?”
His words sounded almost hypnotizing and for a split second, Amara thought about giving in.
It was the only thing that would take her mind off of Elijah. Perhaps alcohol could also do the job, but knowing she had to go into work the following day, Amara dusted off the latter option before doing the same for the former.
“No.” She said, her voice firm, as she pushed Tobias away, creating a small gap between them, one that she wished was wider.
