Fighting Her Battles Herself.

While Amara peaceful snoozed in the comfort of her mattress, Tobias sat in the dim atmosphere of his office, reading through the same article she had read and re-watching the video attached. The first two times he watched the video, he had refused to believe that it was just as the article had said, that Celestine purposefully pushed herself into the pool to gain sympathy and attention. But the more he watched the video, the more he saw that Celestine had indeed fallen into the pool herself. She hadn’t been pushed. ‘But if that’s true,’ He thought. ‘Then, why would she go out of her way to make it seem as if Amara pushed her?’ He knew Celestine wasn’t the type of person who would do such a thing. At least, he thought she wasn’t. But now, after seeing those pictures and this video, he was left with an uncertain feeling that wasn’t settling all too well with him. What feeling this was, Tobias wasn’t given enough time to figure it out as the sound of someone knocking on his office door snapped him out of his thoughts. Closing his phone and placing it down, he faced the door and called. “Come in.” The door opened and Dean stepped in. “Sir,” He greeted with a bow after closing the door behind him. “Do you need something, Dean?” “Not exactly, Sir. I actually came to report to you.” Stepping forward, he handed a brown envelope over to Tobias. “Remember when you told me to look into the company who had purchased Ms. Wood’s cosmetics line? I’ve finally come up with something. I managed to trace the money that was paid to a Ms. Woods bank account and discovered the company’s name. They’re called Synergy, a leading business body in the computer and technology sector and currently, they’re undergoing an inauguration for a new branch head here in London.” “Synergy.” Tobias mumbled and as he finished going through the details provided on the paper. Everything was accurate except for the identity of the new branch head which was yet to be disclosed. But that didn’t matter to him. “Keep an eyes on them. If I have any instruction, I’d let you know.” He said as he handed the envelope back to Dean, who nodded. "Yes, sir." He replied, ready to leave. But Tobias suddenly called out to him. "Dean. Investigate Amara's real life in England over the past six years." He ultimately couldn't resist making this decision. ~•~ The following day, Lorenzo showed up at Amara’s place, ready to drive her to work. “Are you nervous?” He asked as he maneuvered his way towards Synergy’s building which stood tall, towering over all the other buildings around it. “Not at all.” Amara answered honestly. “Father did use to take us to the company as kids, so I’m not unfamiliar with the atmosphere.” “Right.” Lorenzo agreed, chuckling as he recalled the distant memory. “The good ‘ol days, huh?” He muttered. “Mn. The good ‘ol days.” Amara replied, mirroring the smile on her brother’s lips. But it quickly faded as a thought crossed her mind. “Lorenzo?” He hummed in response, keeping most of his attention on the road. “Remember what we discussed, yeah?” “About not revealing your identity? Why do you want to keep it hidden even in father’s company.” “That’s the point, it’s father’s company. Many people would think I’m simply inheriting it because I’m his blood. I don’t want that to happen.” Looking out the window, she added. “I want to show people that I’m more than that, that I’m not just riding on father’s coattails. I want to show them that I can be the best branch head this company has ever seen, better than all the ones that came before me. So,” Turning to Lorenzo and smiling, she pressed her finger to her lips. “Can you keep it a secret, till I’m ready to reveal myself?” Smiling, Lorenzo reached over and ruffled her hair. “Alright. It’s a promise. I won’t reveal your identity. Not until you’re ready.” “Thank you, Lorenzo.” The car pulled into the premises of Synergy right after their conversation. “We’re here.” Lorenzo informed as he stepped out and helped Amara out. Amara admired the huge building before her for a few seconds, inhaling deeply and then nodding to herself. ‘Let’s do this, Mara.’ She cheered inwardly and followed Lorenzo in. But just as they entered, they were approached by Duncan. Duncan was one of the only person in the company that knee Amara’s identity. He bowed upon spotting them both. “Ms. Amara, Mr. Lorenzo. There’s a problem.” He informed. “What is it?” Amara beat her brother to the punch. “Early this morning the company’s executives suddenly called for a meeting.” Duncan informed nervously. “A meeting? What about? And why didn’t I have any knowledge about this?” Lorenzo asked. “Well some of the executives are against the idea of Ms. Amara taking seat as the branch’s head. Especially seeing as she is...an inexperienced woman.” Amara scoffed loudly after hearing this. The nerves of those damn executives. She had planned on coming in soft, playing the nice cop, but seems like that wasn’t going to be the case now. “Someone leaves them for a little while and they all grow balls, huh?” Lorenzo looked just about ready to kill anyone as he spoke. However, Amara touched his shoulder and smiled. “I’ll handle it.” “Are you sure?” “Yeah, it’s the best way to show them what this inexperienced woman is capable of.” Saying this, she turned to Duncan. “Let’s head up.” The assistant nodded and began leading the way. In under five minutes, they had arrived at the conference room. “…Outrageous, isn’t it?” The voice of one of the supposed executive reaches Amara’s ears just as she stood outside the conference room, hand on the door handle. “Children now a days think they can get whatever they want using their body. She’s even trying to run faster than her shadow.” “This isn’t about running faster than her shadow, Shawn. That woman clearly doesn’t know where she belongs. She thinks simply because she hit the jackpot by seducing the boss with that body of hers, she’s fit to lead Synergy, well she’s in for a rude awakening.” “Carlos is right. She couldn’t even keep her marriage together. A rotten apple like that isn’t fit to lead a righteous company like Synergy-“ Whichever executive was speaking at that moment, had their words cut off as Amara pulled the door open and gracefully walked in. She stopped after a few steps and examined the people seated. They too examined her, noticing how great of a figure she had. Despite her fashionably short height, she had curves in the perfect places and the dress she wore, a black gown that hugged her slim waist accompanied by a brown long coat, did nothing but accentuate her figure. But as beautiful as her body was, they had to admit, her face was more so. Her hair, that was tied up into a pony tail, cascaded down her shoulder and rested just above her ample breasts, while the light from the chandelier overhead, illuminated her fair skin, making her look more goddess-like than anything else. They were all snapped out of their trances when Amara spoke. “You all are awfully chatty so early in the morning.” Effortlessly, she walked towards the empty chair at the head of the table and sat down. “It seems to me like you have nothing better to do than to discuss a woman’s body, right?” She looked around the table, noticing how quite all the executives had become. She scoffed. “That’s alright go on, talk. But no matter what you say, I can tell you one thing, the position of branch head, is owned by this body right here. And I bet I can secure way more than that.” Gasp and murmurs filled the room, but Amara ignored them as she gazed at a leaflet before her. It was the exact same one that Elvis had sent her a few weeks back, containing information about a business deal they were currently trying to secure. She picked it up, scrolled through it for a few seconds then tossed it down. The loud sound quickly grabbed everyone’s attention. “That’s the business deal you’ve all Ben struggling tooth and nail to close, yeah?” Crossing her leg, she had a smug look on her face as she said. “I’ll handle it in one week, using this same body you all are curious about. Now,” Standing up, she looked around the table once again. “Does anybody have any objection? If not, then meeting dismissed.”
