Chapter 7

Carson looked at me confused and then his eyes flashed as he remembered what I did in gym class. He stepped closer to me threateningly. "You don't have the guts to try that." He said. By this point, he was close to me. I step back, but my back hit the lockers behind me. He raised his hands and instinctively, I shrunk back and used my hands to cover my face. After awaiting the hit that never came, I slowly removed my hands and looked at Carson. He looked back at me with confusion in his bright blue eyes. "Kayla?" He asked gently. To be honestly, I was surprised he knew my name. I didn't think he was paying attention when I said it earlier. I leaned off the lockers and cleared my throat. I tried to look anywhere and at anything, but him. It was difficult because his searching eyes never left mine. Concern entered his eyes to mix with confusion. "Did you think I was going to hit you?" He asked quietly. "Yeah," I laugh nervously. "After all, you did advance on me." I tried to play it off as nothing, but he didn't look convinced. "Contrary to your belief, I don't hit girls." He stated. "Well, that's good to hear. Um...I really have to get going." I said. I turned away from him quickly before he could say anything else. I looked around at him one last time and saw that he was still standing where I left him, staring at me with a blank expression. He looked to be deep in thought. Oh God. Why had I done that? The last thing I need is for him to begin to speculate about me. No one can find out about what is happening at my home. No one. Or else Allan would kill me. Kayla, what have you done? I was running. I didn't know who or what I was running from, but I knew I was afraid. I was in a forest surrounded by tall trees and no matter how far I run, it seems like I can never reach the opening. I also felt like I wasn't moving at all, even though the chilly night air whipped at my skin. I felt tears streaming down my cheeks and my vision became blurry. I couldn't see where I was going anymore, but I kept running. The sky was dark and the clouds were dark and looming. I started to hear voices all around me. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but the voices sounded cold, angry and terrifying. I finally saw a bright light ahead of me and tried to increase my speed. I didn't want to be in the forest anymore. I didn't feel safe here. As soon as I neared the light, I closed my eyes from its intense glare. As soon as I closed my eyes, I felt my feet gave out from under me. I looked down and realized that I was falling. I waved my hands and cried out as I fell. My body felt heavy and it seems as though I was falling from a far distance, because I could not see the ground. I don't know what happened next, but I was soon in a flower garden. One minute I was falling and the next I was here. Like the flip of a switch. This place was warmer and not terrifying. Beautiful flowers of different colours and sizes were everywhere. There were so many different flowers; magnolias, lilies, daises, roses, sunflowers, orchids, marigolds and daffodils. This place reminded me of my mother's garden, because she used to plant some of these flowers. I was admiring the variety of flowers, when I saw a lady a few distance in front of me. She was wearing a white dress and her brown hair that was so similar to mine, glowed and blew in the wind. When I looked closely, I saw that it was my mother. "Mom!" I shouted as I run to her. I couldn't believe she was really here. I flung my arms around her when I reached her. She hugged me back. "I miss you so much, Mom." She then pulled away from me and wiped the tears from my face. "Why are you crying my darling?" "Please don't leave me again, Mom. Please don't." I pleaded. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm here now my angel. Shh, stop crying." She coed, running her hands through my hair. "Please don't leave me, Mom. Please don't leave me with him." I kept repeating through my tears. I hugged her again tightly, while she comforted me with her soft words. She smelled just like she used to. All of a sudden, I didn't feel her anymore. I looked up and found that I was not hugging anyone. She was gone. I looked around frantic. "Mom!" I shouted, as I spun this way and that. "Mommy!" "Mommy." I whispered as I jolt awake. I cleared my mind and my eyes as I tried to place where I was. I realized that I was in my room, laying on my bed. I rest my head back on my pillow as I realized that I dreamt about my mother again. I looked up at the ceiling and sighed. Looking around at the clock by my bedside, I realized that I was late. Jumping out of my bed, I run to the bathroom to have a quick shower and get ready for school. ****** "Woah, what happened to you?" Kevin asked me as I slipped into my history class a minute before the bell rang. I was breathing heavily from running all the way to school. "I slept through my alarm. Had to run here." I panted through heavy breath. "I can see that. You look a little wild and frazzled." Kevin observed, chuckling. "Don't start with me, Kev." I replied. Kevin just laugh. All I could do was glare at him as our teacher entered the classroom.
