Victoria obediently walked over and handed him the wine glass.
Leon took it, set it aside, then grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his embrace.
She sank into the warmth of a familiar scent, one that instinctively made her want to burrow closer just as she had in the past. Halfway through, she abruptly stopped and pushed him away.
Leon's gaze flickered with surprise.
Victoria swayed slightly, struggling to steady herself as she stared at him. "You haven't checked."
"I have. It's wine," Leon said smoothly, indulging her.
She reached out to take the glass.
His broad palm wrapped around her delicate wrist, stopping her. "I promise not to hold it against you. You don't need to drink."
"Your promise doesn't count. How do I know you won't nitpick and make things difficult for me later?" Victoria argued, her distrust unwavering even in her drunken state.
Leon's fingers slid downward, gently wrapping around her small, slender hand. "I won't."
"Liar," Victoria retorted.
