CHAPTER 26 PSYCOPATH
The doctor frowned, his expression a mixture of pity and confusion. "I'm afraid there's nothing that can be done," he insisted. "It's a harsh reality, but it's the truth."
But Madison wasn't having any of it. She looked down at her best friend's still form, his face peaceful despite the trauma his body had endured. And then, without warning, she placed her hands on his chest and began to press down in steady, rhythmic movements.
"No," she said, her voice a battle cry. "Not like this. He's not leaving me. Not yet."
With each passing second, Madison's movements became more frantic, more desperate. She could feel her best friend's chest expanding and contracting beneath her hands, his heart responding to her touch.
"Come on," she whispered, the tears streaming down her face. "Don't you dare give up on me."
The doctor watched in disbelief, his face a mask of shock and disbelief. "Miss Madison, I'm sorry, but this is only going to cause further damage. Please, stop."
