5 Punishment

The next morning, they prepared ourselves and left for the Mansion. Since they would be giving a uniform to wear there, they carried just a few clothes. When they reached the gates, they showed the gate keeper their batch and he allowed them inside. “Karen.” She heard the butler called her name and she turned around to see him standing in front of her. “Boss needs your assistance in his room.” That man! She was going to see him today! She felt her heart flipped out of her chest in fear. She bowed her head slightly towards the old man before leaving to Noah’s room. As she got closer to the room, her mind began to run with different thoughts. Was he calling her to complain about another thing or he really needed assistance. She brought her hand to her chest to soothe the tension building up. She knocked the door slowly to hear Noah voice telling her to come in. Under the warm blue light in the room, she caught sight of Noah who sat down on the bed. “Do you not want me to deduct another amount from your salary? Didn’t you hear when the butler called you?” He asked. “I am sorry I won’t make that mistake again.” She bowed her head. “Have you taken your medications?” She asked him to receive a blank expression. “Yes.” He replied. “I need a cup of coffee.” She bowed her head and left the room to make the tea. As she was in deep thoughts thinking of how to cope with her Boss, the coffee almost boiled. She quickly removed it from the fire and poured it in a cup to take it to Noah. As she walked upstairs with the small tray and coffee on it, Karen’s mind wandered with different thoughts again. Not knowing what was in front of her, she bumped into the butler and the cup of coffee fell from her hand down the stairs. It crashed into pieces and Karen felt her heart flip out of her chest. Ohh no, he was going to kill her this time. “What have you done Karen?” The butler asked looking down at the broken cup. “This was one of Boss favourite coffee cup and not it’s broken.” On hearing that it was his favourite cup, she began to panic. Her mind racing with different thoughts. Maybe she should run away and never return. But then again he would hold Jenny responsible for her actions. She bit her bottom lip while staring at the broken cup on the ground. “Go and find a way to clean this mess while I report to Boss what had happened.” The butler said turning around to walk away. She wanted to stop him and beg him not to go. But doing that would drag him into her mess. There was hidden cameras in this Mansion and Noah would find out one way or the other. It was her first day of work and she was already breaking things. Why was she so careless in handling valuable things like this? She was sure that he would fire her from work. If she was to use her salary to pay for the broken cup, it would not be enough. She heard the room door opened and her eyes moved to see Noah walking closer to her. He approached her abs stood in front of her with his eyes scanning the broken cup. “Look at this.” He pointed his finger at the cup. “Do you read the instructions in the contract form very well?” Karen had prayed that the butler wouldn’t have said anything but she also didn’t want to bring him into it. “It was never my intentions to break the cup. It was a mistake.” She said. “What did I ask you and what are you saying to me? Two different things.” He hissed. “I read the instructions, Sir.” She said. “I can not forgive you from this one.” He picked one of the broken piece and stared at it. “This was my favourite at of all and you broke it. What do you think I should do to you?” “Spare me please.” She quickly said. “That is what you said the first time. Is this how we would continue? With you breaking things and asking for mercy?” He asked. “It doesn’t work like that. You would need to receive a small punishment for breaking my favourite cup.” “Follow me.” He said. Karen wanted to plead more. She should have known she was working in the house of a Billionaire and not an ordinary person who might forgive her easily. This man was opposite of what she had thought of him to be. She continued to walk behind him while making sure her footsteps wasn’t loud as she didn’t want another punishment. Walking down the corridors, they finally reached his room. He pushed the door opened and they walked inside. When he went to sit on the couch, he picked his phone up and began to scroll through it. The door opened after some time and the butler came in with the cup of tea. He handed it to him before leaving. He took a sip from the tea while leaving her to stand there. Karen could not believe that the man was leaving her to stand while he enjoyed his time watching videos from his phone. He didn’t speak a word to her and she was too angry to even say anything. Was he not going to punish her or what did he have in mind? In the beginning, she had thought this man was a good man who took her to the hospital and paid her bills but she should have known better. He was a devil in disguise. In the mean time, her eyes moved around the room to stare at the canvas pictures. She caught sight of a particular picture. It was a picture of Noah when he was young with his whole family. He was holding a little boy which looked exactly like him and a young girl who was younger than him. The family appeared to be a happy one which made Karen curious about where they are. Maybe they were living on their own. After some time, she moved her eyes away from there to look at the man who had a small smile as he watched the videos in his phone. While he watched the videos, not once did he raised his head to look at her. It was as if she wasn’t existing in the room. But then again, she was someone below his status. It would be considered normal even if he ignored her for the whole day. Instead of pushing her anger away, she thought back of her father. If her father was still alive he wouldn’t have allowed her to work as a maid. Even though he was poor, he was still managing to send some money to her. Her mother on the other hand didn’t care about her. Her mother didn’t want to know if she exists or not. If had been months almost a year since they last talked to each other. If she tried to call, it would go straight to voicemail.
