Chapter Eight

After denying Kody's request that I stay at his house for the seventh time, he finally conceded and instead opted to take me home.

The car ride was silent.

I was tired so I leaned against the passenger door and rested my eyes. I knew Kody wanted to say something to me but I assumed he didn't know where to start.

This was new grounds for the both of us.

He pulled up outside of Zeta Phi after a few minutes but he didn't turn his car off. "What are you doing tomorrow?" He asked softly.

I shrugged. Tomorrow was Sunday so most likely I would be doing laundry.

"I'll come get you in the morning . We need to talk."

I was tempted to say something annoying like 'we have talked' but I didn't want to stress him out anymore than he already was. He was taking this well and wasn't being an asshole so I wasn't going to bitch at him.

"Okay." I agreed reaching for the door handle. I climbed out of the car, straightening my shirt wondering if Kody had anything else to say.

"Ezra."

I turned to look at him.

"The next time you visit the doctor, I want to be there."

My mouth went dry so I simply nodded my head before walking into the house.

Stella met me at the door.

"You're fucking Kody Vincent?" She asked with a scoff.

I rolled my eyes, I was way too tired for this. "Mind your business Stella." I walked past her, heading for the kitchen.

"This sorority is my business and it's not going to be a good look for one of us to be known as Kody's side chick."

She was jealous. Because she'd had a little crush on Kody and he thought she was crazy. More importantly she had a big crush on Jaxon and he wouldn't go near her with a five foot stick.

"You are crazy." I mumbled, pulling open the fridge. I didn't know what time it was but I knew it was past midnight. Time for a snack.

"I'm also the leader of this house." Stella was saying. I winced. Stella was cool most of the time. She just had this need to be better than everybody.

Normally we got along, because normally she was better than me. She had better grades, a better job, better clothes. She had a better family and a better upbringing.

The only problem was that guys didn't like her.

And Stella loved guys.

I think the problem was her need to control things. Guys could spot that a mile away.

She was beautiful and popular but the most dick she got was one night stands. And even those were rare.

"Stella, I'm tired. You can try and run my life in the morning." I said with a yawn. I snatched a cup of yogurt out of the fridge and made my way towards my room.

"Enjoy your sleep. We're waking up bright and early tomorrow to restore Bodley Park."

I mentally groaned. I did not want to restore some park.

"Great." I said in a fake chipper tone before walking to my room.

Macy was up texting furiously on her phone. "How'd it go?" She asked when I slammed the door shut.

I sighed falling back on my bed. "It went surprisingly okay." I said with my eyes closed.

"You gonna give me the details or do I need to take you out to dinner first?"

I laughed weakly. I was so exhausted. "He had a panic attack." I said smiling as I remembered it.

Macy laughed. "That's what his ass gets."

I stretched my legs scrambling to kick off my shoes. "He wants the baby Mace."

Saying it out loud scared the shit out of me. Because I had already pictured myself doing this alone. The thought of Kody raising a baby with me made me uneasy. What if he tried to take it? He had more money than me and a family. I had nothing.

I shook the thought out of my head. I was just being paranoid.

"I'm so fucking proud of you, Ezzie. So proud that I'm going to forgive you for letting me embarrass myself in front of the whole school."

I chuckled remembering her performances the night before.

"I apologized already."

She waved a hand. "Yeah yeah. So what else happened? After the panic attack."

I smiled. "He said 'we'll figure it out.' I don't know what he intends to do but I know he's going to try. We're supposed to talk tomorrow morning."

Macy scoffed. "I hope he's going to be at the park then. Because that's where you are going to be."

Shit, I forgot about that.

"Fuck. Okay I'll just text him to make it tomorrow night."

"You saved all your homework for Sunday night remember."

I knew I was going to regret that.

"We can talk while I do my homework. I'll just bring it with me."

Macy laughed. "Cute date."

"You're a hater." I mumbled already drifting off to sleep. "You'll always be a hater."

*********************

Stella was crazy. Like literally out of her mind.

The park was dead. There was trash everywhere and junkies loitered.

We were doing our best but there was no way the park was getting restored.

To make matters worse, we were dressed in mildly provocative clothes. Jean shorts hugged all of our curves and-the white Zeta Phi shirts cinched in to expose a tad bit of our stomachs.

We looked cute, but that wasn't the point.

We had been at it for about three hours and the park didn't look any better. I was on the verge of passing out.

"Jamie's coming to get me." Macy said in a low voice.

We were both sitting next to a large pile of leaves. We were supposed to be throwing them away.

"Why?" I asked. I playfully ran my hands through the pile.

"Because I'm tired and I complained enough to make him feel obligated. There's room in his car for you."

I shook my head. Macy would get in trouble for leaving. And since I already had an argument with Stella last night, I was trying to stay on her good side.

"We're almost done." I said guesturing to the park.

She laughed. "No we're not. And that guy in the blue has been checking you out for the past thirty minutes. He's old as hell."

I swiftly turned my head to see who she was talking about. Sure enough there was a short guy staring me down. I rolled my eyes turning back to Macy.

"Stella is just loving all of the attention." I said.

It was true. Stella was basically strutting down the sidewalk for all the guys to stare. She had even walked down to the packed basketball courts to 'wipe down the water fountains'.

It was sad.

"I'm gonna hook her up with Jamie's brother." Macy mumbled standing and brushing her hands off on her shorts.

I laughed. "Yeah right. You want her as your sister in law?"

She thought about it. "We'll see."

I stood up as well.

Macy's phone began to go off and she smiled bringing it to her ear.

"Can I help you?" She said in a playful voice causing me to raise a brow. "She sure is." She continued.

I mouthed the words "who's that."

To my surprise she handed the phone to me. "Your baby daddy wants to talk to you."
