"See you next time." Serena quickly typed a reply and muted Wynne's notifications before she could send another barrage of messages. Her fingers moved swiftly across the screen, but Hugh, who had been watching her, frowned slightly. It was the first time he had seen her so absorbed in her phone. "If staying at the Larson residence makes you uncomfortable, I can have Chandler take you home first." Serena looked up in surprise, slipping her phone into her bag. "Hmm? We haven't even had dinner yet. That wouldn't be appropriate." "Do as you like." For Hugh, her comfort mattered more than dinner. His tone was light as if defying the expectations of the family elders was something he could do without a second thought. But Serena shook her head. "You've helped me a lot. I'll play my part as your wife properly. Besides, if we leave early, Grandpa won't be happy." With that, she stepped forward and gently took Hugh's arm.
