4 Attack at the village border
Aiden POV
Stepping out of the Castle, I went into the carriage which had been prepared for me. Reaching the court, I stepped out of the carriage and went into the court house to see the court men stood up at the sight of me.
One of the court men, Marcos, stepped forward. “Your highness..... There have been a commotion going on at the border of the village.”
“What happened?” I asked.
“A woman of this village was killed while passing through the borders.” Marcos replied.
“Was is an hunter attack?” I questioned. Rumours has it for years on how the werewolf hunters have been lurking at the border of the pack to kill any Werewolf they came across.
“It doesn’t look like an Hunter’s attack. We found big boils on her body. Her eyes were widely opened and it refused to close.” Marcos spoke.
If it was an hunter attack, it would have been an arrow or bullet in her chest but this was a different case.
“Follow me.” I turned around and left the court house into the carriage.
Reaching the border, we came down from the carriage. Crowd gathered around the body which lay lifeless on the ground. “Go send men to cover the borders. Until we find out who the killer is, no one is allowed to cross the border.”
Walking closer to the body, the people gave way for me to pass. I looked down at the woman who looked lifeless. Her eyes were widely opened and her body were stiff.
“Your majesty!” Another of the court men hurried to my side. “You wouldn’t believe what we found.”
“Speak!” I ordered.
“We found another body in the middle of the forest. It was a dead man with big boils around his body.” The man replied.
“This is something I have never seen. We don’t know if this was an Hunter’s doing or some rival tribe are planning on going war with us. What do you think?” I questioned him.
“I would to try to investigate with the rest, about what happened and will report the information I can gather to you.” He said.
Just then, Marcos came down from the carriage that stopped in front of us. “Your majesty..... Do you know that there are some foreigners in our pack who are looking forward to spend the rest of their lives here. We do not know what might have caused the woman’s death but we saw another body in the middle of the forest. Don’t you think we should ban those people the village?”
“No.” I shook my head. “It would only lead to war. Investigate more on what was behind the woman’s death. You said you saw another body?”
“Yes.” He nodded. “In the middle of the forest and her appearance is the same as this woman.”
“Do what I have told you two to do and report any news to me.” I said to them.
Turning around, I decided to take a walk down the borders to see if I could see the killer who was behind the death of the two people. If the woman was killed few hours ago the person behind her death would be around to find another body he could kill.
My eyes scanned throughout the deserted road when i caught sight of a man. He was from this village and his appearance speaks a lot. He looked at me intently and I knew immediately he was a werewolf hunter. Was he perhaps the man who killed the woman?
But Werewolf Hunters never had potions that could change the appearance of a person before death. I took couple of steps towards him to interrogate him but before I knew it, he was gone. I turned around to see him standing behind me with a small frown.
“Aren’t you in too much hurry? I just wanted to question you.” I smiled and pulled out the small pistol in my coat pocket.
“I knew something was off about this place. You are a werewolf.” He hissed, pulling out his own gun.
“With my guess, you killed the woman at the border, didn’t you?” I raised a brow.
“I just arrived here after hearing that my men was killed here last night.” He pointed the gun on my forehead.
“Tell me the truth and I might perhaps spare your life. Don’t forget you are the only one here, I could kill you in a blink of eye. Tell me..... Did you kill her?” I asked.
Aiming the gun, he took a shot at me but I dodged it easily.
“You are strong.” He smiled.
“What do you expect? A mere Werewolf?” I scoffed. “I am the Lycan King of this pack.”
At my words, his eyes widened. He shot me again and I dodged it. I tackled his neck with inhuman speed and all of a sudden he was on the ground. Without thinking twice, I shot him in his stomach thrice.
His body began to tremble on the ground as blood seeped from his stomach to the ground.
“You stupid hunters are so easy to get even with all that protection. Now tell me..... Did you kill the woman?” I ask again.
I could tell that the hunter was going to die but I wanted information from him.
“The rest are going to find you and they will kill you!” He seethed.
“I should blow your head off! Perhaps you would know how to answer question when asked. Did you kill her or not?” I asked.
“Let me go free.” The man struggled to breathe as he tried to reach for his pocket.
Four years ago, there was a fierce war between hunters and Werewolves. The humans were using the witches to help them during the war. The witches used their potions to kill most of the werewolves and after the fight was over, we banned all the witches from the village.
But even with that, there were some cases about people killed by the witches. The witches remain hidden and they only come at night to abduct good people and use them for their rituals.
“Tell me..... Was it a witch who killed the woman or was it the Hunters?” I questioned.
The man stared at me, spouting blood from his mouth. He didn’t respond but instead he continued to cough as he would die soon.
Before I knew what was happening, the hunter reached for his pocket and brought out a small jar. He opened the jar and drank from liquid which was dark red in colour. He sent a blow across my face and I staggered back.
I looked up at the man, confused with what was going on. My eyes went down to his stomach where I had shot him.
“You should not look so shocked.” He smiled at me and in a blink of an eye, he disappeared into thin air.
