"We're here to take you with us," the officer declared.
Laura struggled vehemently, "If something happens to me, my son won't let you off the hook once he's free."
Pierce felt a growing headache. He did not want his mother to continue her brazen defiance in the police station. It was tolerable at home but inappropriate here.
