Chapter3

Today is Tuesday and I already regret waking up this morning. I barely had the energy to wake up, the only reason I actually got up is because my little sister, Haley, was annoying me. Since I was supposed to be leaving for school in ten minutes I just put on the quickest outfit that I was able to. It consisted of an oversized Harvard sweatshirt that I paired with a pair of denim ripped jeans and white slip on vans. I was too lazy to do my hair so I just brushed it up into a ponytail. "Hanna, pay attention" My science teacher yells out I jump in my seat from the sudden scare. I look up and notice that she's glaring at me. Why does she hate me so much? I roll my eyes as she goes back to teaching us about the earths tilt. We're sophomores, why do we have to learn about something that we've been learning about since fifth grade. "What crawled up her ass this morning?" Aurelia comments from beside me as she continues to scroll through her Instagram feed Seriously?! She can purposely be on her phone but I cannot unintentionally daydream. "The same thing that has been up there since the first day of school" I say lowly, hoping that she wouldn't hear it Aurelia lets out a slight chuckle and puts her phone down. I notice her lean her chin on her closed fist and stare at the side of my face intently. I continue to stare straight ahead of me, at the diagram on the bored, trying desperately to ignore my rapidly beating heart. The longer I feel her mysterious grey eyes on my face the harder my heart begins to beat. "I don't understand you" she finally says after staring at me for the longest time I take this chance to look at her surprisingly calm facial expression. "What are you talking about?" I ask her with a raised brow She removes her chin from her closed fist and leans back in her chair, making sure to keep her full attention on my face. "I can usually read people from their appearance and body posture" she says with a small smirk "Yeah?" I reply encouraging her to continue as the teacher begins to talk about gravitational pulls "Don't believe me?" She challenges as she points towards a random classmate in the front row "She's an only child judging by her wardrobe, he parents spoil her but have enough control over her judging by the way she presents herself, and finally, someone has hurt her in some form of way which is why she's usually rude to most people" Aurelia finishes with an eyebrow raising "Those are just assumptions, Aurelia" I say matter of factly "Do you want to know what I've found out about you so far?" She questions calmly I tilt my head to the side as I give her an 'are you serious' facial expression. "You're either an only child or the oldest child, You recently went through an awful breakup with a self centered douchebag, because of said break up you have trust issues, and finally you're secretly gay" she states which causes my eyes to widen in shock What the-? How did she-? Wait a minute. Did she say gay? I'm not gay. There's no way that I could be gay. "I must admit that that's impressive, but you got one thing wrong" I say as I hear the teacher mention something about partner work "Oh yeah, what's that, princess?" Aurelia questions with a knowing facial expression, her smirk never falling from her face I ignore the instantly butterflies in my stomach from the nickname. "I'm not gay," I inform which makes her laugh "What's so funny?" I ask with a serious tone of voice "Sweetheart, I could feel your gayness radiating off of you the first time we met" she says So, yesterday. "It must've been someone else because I do not swing that way" I say just as the teacher says something that catches my attention "You guys have three days to work on this project, your partner for this project is your lab partner whom you will have to work with away from school" the teacher finishes Please tell me that she is kidding. I have to not only see Aurelia in school but after school too. "You know, that's what everyone says. Spoiler alert, they end up coming out" she says responding to my earlier remark There is no way that I will be working with her after school even if it is for a science project. - "Have you seen Aurelia's outfit today?" Bailey says with a tone of fascination Today Aurelia is wearing a dark red sweater which she paired with a pair of black leggings and chunky black boots. "Yes, I wonder where she got her shoes from" Faith replies Ugh. I think my friends are broken, again. It is currently the end of the day and I am at my locker filling my backpack with my homework and school supplies. "Hanna?" Faith asks successfully knocking me out of my inner thoughts "What?" I ask her as I throw my backpack over my shoulder and close my locker "She just asked if we could come over to your house this weekend" Bailey responds as we begin to make our way towards the double doors I take a moment to think about my, usually empty, schedule before groaning when I remember that I actually have something to go to this weekend. "You can't, my mother is hosting this gala and wants our whole family to attend" I say with a sad tone of voice They're facial expressions mimic mine before Faith suddenly gasps, catching Bailey and I off guard. I look in the direction that Faith is only for my eyes to widen when they land on a smug faced Aurelia. Shit. Before I get the chance to run away from her, again, she's grabbing my wrist which effectively paralyzes my legs. What the hell?! I should be running away from her, not standing in front of her relishing in the wonderful set of tingles that her touch offers me. "Have you been avoiding me, princess?" Aurelia questions with a knowing smirk I would do whatever it takes to wipe that smirk off of her face. And I mean whatever it take. "Don't get so cocky," I say with annoyance clear in my tone of voice as I yank my wrist out of her grip "I wasn't avoiding you" I answer She raises her eyebrow at me as if silently saying 'you're kidding, right?'. "Um, We'll just leave you two alone" Faith says as she grabs Bailey's wrist and begins to drag her away from Aurelia and I I groan out with irritation as I bring my hand up to hold my forehead. "What do you want, devil in disguise?" I ask the black haired beauty in front of me "Look, we're already on the path to friends, princess" she teases causing me to ball my hands into my fists by my sides "Aurelia, I swear to god" I say, my patience thinning quicker than my math teacher's hair And that's saying a lot. "All I want is the truth" she says "I gave you the truth" I state matter of factly "Every time I entered a room, you left it" she informs "Maybe I just had places to be" I say as I cross my arms She mimics my stance making me grow further irritated. What is her problem? "When I entered the cafeteria you briefly glanced at me before grabbing your bag and rushing out of there" she says Shit. I was hoping that she didn't see me. "I had to use the bathroom" I weakly defend myself as I begin to walk away from her "Really? Because when I asked Bailey and Faith why you left they said that you didn't want to see me" she says as she follows me Okay. Bailey, Faith and I need to have a discussion because this is getting a little out of hand. "Why do you care? You have basically the whole school lusting after you, what's so different about me that you have to irritate me every chance you get?" I reply as I force the doors open and look for my moms car She laughs at this which causes goosebumps to rake over my skin. I feel her lean in next to my ear making my heart run a marathon. "One, you just get irritated easily," she says making me roll my eyes "And two, you're not like everyone else" she finishes before walking off leaving me shocked and confused as well as a little frustrated I don't trust her. She's bad news. Who knows what she's up to. - I just finished my homework only to suddenly remember that I have a project with the devil that is due in three days. I refuse to work with her out of school. Who knows what her intentions are. My phone begins to ring from my night table effectively cutting off my thoughts. I reach over and unplug the device before sliding the 'accept' button and waiting for the video chat to connect. As it connects I'm met with the face of Faith. "How did your talk with Aurelia go?" She asks, skipping the greetings "Nice to see you too, Faith" I say with a small laugh as I lean my back against my headboard She rolls her eyes at my sarcasm. "I'm serious, Hanna, the room feels different whenever the both of you are in it" she says making me laugh "That's an great joke, Faith" I respond "Hanna, why are you avoiding her? She's making a genuine effort to befriend you" she says matter of factly I remain silent as I take in her words. "I can't get close to her" is all I respond with a serious tone of voice. This peaks Faith's interest as she frowns at me. "Is this because of Chadley?" She asks hitting the bullseye I just nervously bite my lip as I break our eye contact. She sighs at this, gaining my attention. "Hanna, just because you were wrong about one persons intentions doesn't mean that everyone's intentions are horrible" she says with a motherly tone of voice "Yeah, well I'll never find out because I'm putting an end to whatever her and I have" I say with a newfound determination "Hanna, you and I both know that that's not what you want" Faith says with disappointment "Yes, it is. Look, I have to go, I'll see you tomorrow" I say before hanging up, giving her no time to respond I throw my phone beside me and begin to gather my school supplies so that I can place them back in my backpack. As I finish cleaning up I hear a knock on my door. "Come in" I yell out as I place my bag beside my bed The doorknob quickly twists before revealing my my mom's face as well as my little sister, Isabella. I haven't seen much of her lately. She's usually hanging out with her friends or our aunt Carolina. "I made you some cookies" my mom says as she walks over to me and places the plate of cookies in my lap "I know that you didn't come in here just to give me a plate of cookies" I say as Isabella climbs onto my bed and sits beside me "You're right, are you getting used to being back?" She asks genuinely as I hand Isabella a cookie "If you ignore the fact that Chadley and Ava are making it their goal to humiliate me, the new girl is making me emotionally confused and my best friends are pushing me towards a dangerous path, then yes" I reply before taking a bite out of a cookie She gives me an amused facial expression as she crosses her arms. "What's this talk about a new girl making you emotionally confused?" She teases making a blush creep up my cheeks "Really, that's all you got from my rant?" I ask her as a smile makes it's way onto my face She doesn't get a chance to respond as my mother walks into the room. "Babe, Carolina said that she wants to keep Haley for the week" she says as her eyes never leave mom's "No, we need her at the gala this weekend. Your words, not mine" my mom responds My mother raises her hands in a surrender-like motion before retreating out of my room. "Anyways, if you ever need someone to talk to about these 'emotions' then I'm always here for you" she says with a genuine smile "Thank you" I reply as I return the smile She nods and retreats out of my room taking Isabella with her. As she closes the door I sigh before taking another bite of my cookie. I need to get this new girl out of my life. And fast.
