“Hunter,” Professor Helton started softly as the sound of something dragging over the floor filled the air, making me assume that he was getting to his feet. “You can’t just ‘not want to do this anymore’. It’s who we are, Hunter.”
“I don’t want it,” Hunter replied, still sounding sad and scared, and I wanted to wrap my arms around him.
“Do you want them to find out?”
“No, but–”
“Hunter… Get it together,” Professor Helton’s voice was firm now and once again, I frowned, wondering what they were talking about. Hunter didn’t respond and I assumed his attention was still on his uncle, but my assumption was proven wrong when the door was suddenly yanked open and Hunter marched out, crashing into me. I yelped and the papers in my hand flew out of my hand, fluttering to the ground around me as I went down like a sack of potatoes.
