CHAPTER FIFTY SIX - The Truth Hidden in History
Vincent's smile never wavered, but his eyes hardened. "Those are some serious accusations, Lucas. I hope you have proof to back them up."
"You know I don't," Lucas growled. "You're too clever for that. But we both know the truth."
Vincent leaned back in his chair, swirling the wine in his glass. "The truth, Lucas, is that the restaurant business is cutthroat. Only the strong survive. If you can't handle a little competition, perhaps you're in the wrong industry."
Lucas slammed his hands down on the desk, causing the wine in Vincent's glass to slosh dangerously close to the rim. "Competition is one thing. What you're doing goes far beyond that. You're playing with people's livelihoods, their dreams!"
Vincent's smile finally faded, replaced by a cold, hard look. "Dreams? Let me tell you about dreams, Lucas. Your father and I had a dream once. A partnership that would have revolutionized the culinary scene in this town. But he got cold feet, backed out at the last minute. Left me hold
