Ruby slowly peeled her eyes open. Her head moved robotically, and she gazed out the window on the left side of her bed. She watched the steady drops of rainwater hit the leaves of the flowers placed on the window sill in her hospital room. She counted the drops, her heart following the rhythm of the droplets, letting herself get lost in a daze of nature. How long had she been there?
