CHAPTER 512: THE PRICE OF DESPERATION
Lauretta sat across from Caleb at the upscale restaurant, the aroma of freshly cooked gourmet dishes wafting in the air. Her mind, however, was far from the culinary delights. She had hoped this meeting would provide a financial lifeline for her struggling company. Caleb, a tall man with slicked-back hair and piercing blue eyes, had seemed like an angel sent at the right moment when they met at Max's funeral.
Caleb leaned forward, his fingers tapping rhythmically on the white linen tablecloth. "So, Lauretta, tell me more about the issues you're facing with your company."
Lauretta sighed, pushing a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "It's a nightmare, Caleb. Stanley's mistakes have left us on the brink of bankruptcy. The fire only made things worse. We're hemorrhaging money, and if we don't secure a substantial loan soon, we'll have to shut down."
Caleb's expression softened, and he nodded empathetically. "I understand, truly. Business can be ruthless. You've been dealt a tough hand.
