CHAPTER 509: PATH TO MAKE AMENDS
George paced back and forth in his grandfather Silas's study; his face looked so tired, and his eyes were red and swollen. He had been up all-night thinking about his hasty decision to fire Benjamin; he didn't think it through before he did that; he allowed his emotions to make such decisions; years of good friendship, just one mistake made out of jealousy, had broken it.
He had spent the last few days in a haze of regret, repeatedly replaying the bitter arguments with Benjamin in his mind. How could he have been so blind? George clenched his fists, stopping at the window to gaze at the bustling streets.
Silas, sitting in his worn leather chair, observed his grandson; his eyes were filled with concern; he had never seen his grandson so unsettled as this; he kept on staring at George cynically, hoping to know what was bothering him though he was patient enough to let him alone, waiting for the right moment to ask him as a mixture of concern and patience.
