CHAPTER 408: GETTING THE MIND OFF HARD TIMES
Maddy and Ryan sat on a bench at the hospital playground, their eyes following Cameron and Susan. The children laughed and chased each other, their movements light and careful.
"The hospital allowing playtime during visiting hours is such a great idea," Ryan said, watching Cameron's lean body, now slightly filled out with the doctor's approval for participation in today's play.
"Look at them," Ryan continued, a smile spreading across his face. "They're really getting along well, aren't they?"
Maddy nodded, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of pride and relief. "They are. I never thought Susan would open up like this. She's been through so much."
"They've both been through a great deal," Ryan agreed. "Cameron's doctor said the last chemotherapy session killed most of the cancer cells. We should expect a full recovery soon."
"I'm just glad he can run again," Maddy said softly. "Cancer is a bastard."
