CHAPTER 403: THE BREAKING POINT
Maddy could feel her world crumbling as she rushed through the hospital floors. The seven-hour flight from London to Brooklyn had seemed like an eternity, and she knew she had probably unsettled a few people by how robotic her mannerisms and answers were when asked simple questions.
She had received a text from her mom telling her Susan had been diagnosed with cancer—a poor, innocent child.
Her vision blurred as she dashed through the door to the pediatric ward, her heart pounding heavily against her chest.
"Hi," she rushed out, coming to a sudden halt in front of a nurse. "I'm looking for my daughter? Her name's Susan Fillowite."
"She's been transferred to a separate room."
"Can you point me to it?" she asked anxiously, and the nurse smiled and gestured in front of her.
"I'm headed to her now; please follow me."
She hastened after the lady, muttering soft prayers in her mind.
She suddenly stopped in front of her stern-faced mother in the waiting area.
