Chapter 57
Jacob's eyes flickered when he heard Nicole say life had forced her into this situation. Watching her deft movements, he came to realize that she'd probably suffered a lot living in the countryside since she was young.
He suddenly felt bad for his previous actions. Maybe he shouldn't have treated her that way.
"What are you waiting for? You can't chop firewood, but you can at least carry them to the kitchen, right?" Nicole ordered with her hands on her hips.
She initially thought Jacob would snap at her, but he walked over and picked up the firewood in silence. Then, he left for the kitchen.
Nicole was stunned. She blinked, wondering if he'd turned over a new leaf.
After finishing the work, she sidled next to Jean and asked, "Grandma Jean, we missed the train back. Can we stay here for the night?"
Jean chortled. "Of course you can. The two rooms in the west wing have already been tidied, so both of you can stay there comfortably."
Flashing a sweet smile at her, Nicole stayed
