Chapter 457
Jacob didn't hear a response from Nicole. Holding a frying pan, he suspiciously stood at the kitchen doorway.
The dining room was dimly lit, and Nicole sat quietly on a chair while staring blankly at a spot in the distance.
Jacob put down the pan, wiped the oil from his hands, tossed his apron aside, and walked over to her. Kneeling beside her, he gently touched her arm and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
"I think I saw Griffin today." Nicole seemed uncertain. She tilted her head and asked, "Why would he be out?"
It seemed like there was no more hiding the truth.
Jacob pulled up a chair and sat down. He patted the back of her hand and said in all seriousness, "Listen carefully to what I'm about to say."
Nicole turned to face him as a growing sense of unease bubbled up inside her.
"From what I've heard, a couple of days ago, Griffin was being transferred to another prison. He broke out during the transfer and disappeared."
"Disappeared? What do you mean?"
"None of the city's bus
