Chapter 35
Elara took a deep breath and quelled her surging emotions. She grabbed Eryndor's hand and pressed it to where her hands had been earlier. "Keep your hands here."
Then, she wrapped her arms around his waist and dragged him to the water tank with difficulty. She hid him amid the seaweed as he watched her in confusion. She said, "Wait here for me."
She was leaving? Why did she still want to go? He'd already shown her how dangerous the world was without him by her side. Why did she still want to leave?
Elara stood up but found that Eryndor was holding onto her sleeve. He looked up at her from amid the seaweed, a trace of confusion in his eyes. It reminded her of a small, abandoned animal.
"I'm going to get a cart to take you away from here. Otherwise, you'll die," she said. A hint of panic shot through her, but she kept her voice calm. "Hide here, okay? If I don't make it back alive… once the order is restored, take this to a bioengineer named Ashley Lane. She'll care for you."
