But what Elara and her group saw next was even worse. James had walked to an office next to the supermarket and pulled the door open. There, an indescribable stench attacked them. It was a mix of blood, rot, and the musty smell of a damp place left in the dark for too long. The room wasn't large, but bodies filled every inch—some were lying down, some were slumped on the couch, and others were sprawled on the floor. Their skin clung tightly to their bones, and their eye sockets were sunken deep. They had been drained of blood and were now akin to desiccated corpses. They were all dressed in security uniforms. Batons still hung from their belts, untouched, as if they had been resting peacefully just moments before disaster struck. Elara scanned the room as she stood at the doorway until her gaze landed on one particular corpse. The man was slumped over a desk, and the back of his head was completely pierced through. On his back, his uniform was marked with the number 10
