A hand reached out to me, followed by a deep, measured voice. "Can you get up?"
I was still holding my stomach, my face drained of color. I nodded weakly and placed my hand in Idris'. As I braced to push myself up, he tightened his hold and effortlessly pulled me to my feet, supporting me.
"Why were you alone in this alley, Yvette?" he asked in a low tone.
I could not look at him as I was too ashamed to speak.
The man on the ground had managed to get to his feet by then. There was fury in his eyes. He barked at Idris, "Who do you think you are? Do you know who I am? I'm pressing charges for assault!"
