Idris's brow creased in thought, and then, as if a lightbulb had flicked on, he turned to Gregory, who had just briefed him on the situation. "Call off the search outside. Focus on the neighborhood—check each home, one by one," he instructed.
Gregory paused, a flicker of realization crossing his face before he dashed off to make a call.
I was confused. "But why the neighborhood? Mom said she saw someone carrying the child out of here, right?"
Idris gave a slight shake of his head and explained, "We've missed something crucial—your mom being tripped. The kidnapper must have had help. There's a good chance they had a pick-up outside. We've scoured the surveillance footage and haven't spotted the child or the kidnapper, which probably means they handed off the kid and circled back here. It's likely the child never really left, and the kidnapper dodged the cameras on the way back in. That's why we can't find them outside."
