The room fell into an awkward silence. I was here to talk about that very issue. It appeared, however, that the conversation was off the table, leaving us with nothing to say.
Gregory, though, with a thoughtful frown, caught my eye. "Ms. Scott, there's something you might actually want to hear about."
I kept quiet, giving him a skeptical look. He got straight to the point. "Moore's been doing great on the inside. She got her sentence cut short."
It had been ages since I had heard the name Moore. It threw me for a loop, like a blast from the distant past. I managed a small smile and a nod. "Well, that's good news."
I had not checked in on her for years, and Mom never set foot in the prison to see her after everything that went down back then. Moore would have slipped my mind completely had Gregory not mentioned her.
