Chapter 750 Idris, I Think I’m Coming Down With Something
I crouched down to carefully wrap it up and walked over to the bed. My gaze landed on the Blackwood box sitting on the nightstand, and my chest tightened. Mom had been gently pushing me to lay the child's ashes to rest. The older folks always said that the dead should be buried to find peace in the earth. She probably thought that if I could put away everything connected to Lucas, maybe, just maybe, I could get back to living the way I used to.
I was not sure if I could ever get back to that. These past two months since coming home, I had been lost in a fog, aimlessly drifting like a lost soul, without any sense of direction or the drive to keep going.
I guessed I might not have much time left. The me that was there now was nothing like the old Yvette, the one who had been bursting with life and would not let any slight go unanswered. That Yvette might as well have been dead.
Knock, knock… Someone was at the door. My little black cat leaped from my arms, curious to see who it was.
