Chapter 697 Why the Jump?
He was dragging me toward a big, ominous iron gate. I was pretty far along with my pregnancy and clumsy. I was scared they would be rough and hurt my baby, so I did not have much choice but to go along with them.
We had not gotten far when… bang, bang!—two gunshots rang out. Next thing I knew, the thugs were dropping like flies.
Everything happened so fast that I could not even figure out how they had hit the ground before I was yanked into a pair of strong arms. Then came Lucas's deep, steady voice, "You okay?"
Today had been a total nightmare. Staring at the two guys sprawled on the ground, I could not even tell where they had been hit. All I saw was the blood—a lot of it—seeping out from underneath them.
It felt like forever before I could bring myself to look up at Lucas. My throat was on fire, but I managed to rasp out, "Are they... dead?"
Lucas looked taken aback for just a split second before his lips thinned out, and he said, cold as ice, "They got what was coming to them.
