Lucas kept eating, not even glancing up, and deflected, "Didn't you want to go hug those big trees in the backyard last night? Did you?"
He had changed the subject. I shook my head. "I bumped into Inch first thing and didn't get the chance. I'll head out there after we eat."
He agreed, "I'll have someone go with you."
I waved off the offer. "No need, I can handle it. It's just the backyard, not a trek or anything."
He set his chopsticks down and gave me a serious look. "Yvette, here in Mandala, snakes don't bother with hibernating."
I paused, my lips forming a small 'o' before I went quiet.
He was right, after all. The weather was not blazing hot like in the summer; however, it was still warm enough for all sorts of critters to be out and about. He had been living here for years, so I bet they sprayed for pests all the time.
He was probably just trying to spook me, worried I would get into some kind of trouble on my own.
