Rebecca’s face went pale, and she froze for a few seconds. Eventually, she managed to look at me and ask, "Ms. Scott, don't you want to help him?"
I could not help but laugh. "Why on earth should I help him? He's the reason I nearly died, the reason my dear friend is now nothing but ashes, and the reason my hero lies cold in the ground. Why should I beg for mercy for him just because you say he did not mean to hurt me? I am supposed to just melt and be all-forgiving?"
She was speechless, caught off guard.
The evening sky was turning a deep shade of twilight as I took a deep breath, got up, and said to her, "Thanks for the burrito today, by the way."
With that, I headed for the bamboo house.
"Ms. Scott," she called out from behind me, her voice tinged with desperation, "I know you are upset with Inch, but please, I’m begging you. He’s being tormented so badly by Kenneth that he’s knocking on death's door. If he does ’t get rescued soon, he isn’t going to make it."
I laughed softly
