I nodded, my heart bursting with words I longed to share with him. However, as his face grew fuzzier, all I felt was a deep sense of loss. I knew he was gone, and every dream was a precious chance to see him again, to memorize his face before it faded away.
"Yvette, just do your best. That's all you can do," Dad's voice was fading. I clung to his shirt, desperate to hold on, but the world around me dissolved into fog.
"Ms. Scott." It was Gregory's voice that brought me back. I blinked my eyes open to find him staring down at me, his face etched with concern. "You okay?" he asked as I came back to reality.
I shook my head to clear it, wiping away the last of my tears, and took a good look around. The room felt both alien and oddly comforting. It was a hospital room.
Turning to Gregory, I asked with concern, "What's wrong with me? And how's Idris doing?"
