CHAPTER 114 THE TRUE CATALYST

We didn't stop or pause as we ran, battered as we all were.
We both swung each of Meredith's hands across our shoulders, helping to keep her up while we put as much distance as we possibly could between us and the hideout.
"How far away is it?" she asked weakly.
"Just a few more steps now," Dominic assured, and we fell silent again as we slowly navigated an almost impenetrable thicket. Finally, out of the forest, Meredith sighed heavily and passed out against us as if waiting to ensure we exited the deep woods safely.
I moved aside and let Dominic lift and carry her into the vehicle. "I'll sit with her," I said, sliding beside her.
He nodded and shut the door firmly before opening his side.
The drive back to the Tau mansion was mainly silent. Meredith kept slipping into and out of the nap, then she got feverish and began to shiver uncontrollably.
