I'd witnessed Tara and Caleb walking down an alley together, chatting and laughing with each other. They'd looked like a couple in love. It was at that moment that I knew Tara had betrayed me. She'd played me.
I'd written letters, prepared gifts, and orchestrated surprises for Caleb like a fool. Tara had hidden them all. She hadn't passed any of the things to Caleb. Instead, she'd played me like a fiddle every day and watched as I made a fool of myself.
The infatuation one felt for another person in their youth was always unforgettable, and the sight of Tara and Caleb being together had made my heart ache.
