Nathan’s smile curled sinisterly as he mercilessly plunged the syringe in his hand.
The transparent liquid surged into Giselle Lambert’s veins, and her defiant eyes slowly fluttered closed under the drug’s potent spell.
When she awoke again, she was sprawled on the ground, enveloped in darkness as if she lay within the bowels of an ancient house. The murmurs of the ocean reverberated through the walls, and the air carried a subtle brine.
Giselle tested her limbs; she wasn’t bound.
A spark of escape ignited in her mind. She glanced around—no one was in sight. Seizing the moment, she sprinted towards the exit.
But what greeted her outside stunned her into stillness.
She was on an excruciatingly narrow island, so tiny she could view its entirety in one glance. The only structure was the house she had just fled, and the man who had abducted her was now idly fishing by the shore.
“Awake?” Nathan inquired without turning around.
