Chapter 28: Coming Home for Dinner
Giselle Lambert was deep in thought when the sudden movement of the man behind her startled her.
He turned over, wrapping his arm around her waist from behind, confining her tightly like an iron chain, leaving no room for her to escape.
The more confined she felt, the stronger her urge to flee became.
The thought of escaping made her think of her grandmother, and she wondered how her recovery was progressing.
She missed her dearly.
Though her mind was alert, Giselle’s body was too tired to support her thinking, and she soon fell into a deep sleep.
She slept until noon. After a quick wash, she descended the stairs only to find Sophie still bustling around in the kitchen.
Normally, by this time, Sophie would have already had lunch prepared.
Curiosity led Giselle to the counter, which today was piled with twice the usual amount of ingredients. “Sophie, are we expecting guests today?”
“Miss Lambert, today is Mr. Jefferson’s birthday, so I’m preparing extra dishes,” Sophie explaine
