  After being jolted awake by a violent impact, Elaine found herself grappling with the harsh sea breeze that seeped through her window like a low, mournful cry.   Wrapping her hands around her body, she lay curled up for a moment, feeling a tad disoriented, and wondered if she had caught a cold.
