Chapter 156 Departure
Jaxson's teasing voice echoed close to Elinor's ear. Yet, he was aware that this gift could never compensate for what had been lost and would always fall short. This was because he had once loved another woman, and the wedding ring should have been meant for her.
Elinor looked at Jaxson, thinking back to the woman she had seen on his computer previously. It seemed as if she understood something. Quietly, she took a step back, opting not to accept Jaxson's ring.
Elinor's subtle retreat caused Jaxson's heart to flutter, a sense of apprehension rising within him.
"What are you doing? Come here," he stammered, his voice tinged with panic. Reaching out, he sought to grasp Elinor's hand, only to have her skillfully evade his touch and retreat another step.
Elinor's tears cascaded unrestrained, blurring her vision of Jaxson. Her voice, however, was icy and resolute. "I'm leaving."
Those words struck like thunder, leaving Jaxson dumbfounded, unwilling to accept the reality before him
