Chapter 17 How Hateful Was She

Hiding the part where she framed Renee, Irina dramatized and told Nevin what happened today. "Renee made all these! I don't know why there were so many men waiting! Renee always had a lot of ulterior motives! She will definitely tell the police that I did everything! Maybe she will falsely accuse me of bribing those men to harm her!" Nevin clenched his fists and said, "That slut! Fortunately, you and our baby are fine. Otherwise, I will kill her!" He hugged Irina's shoulder and comforted her, "Don't worry. No matter what happens, I will always believe in you." "Nevin, you're so good." Irina threw herself into Nevin's arms like a lovely girlfriend. However, her eyes showed no warmth but sinister coldness. Sooner or later, she will make Renee repay twice as much for these insults! "Those men all went to Renee. See how hateful she is! There are probably many people who want to kill her." Gail also spat and said, "Bitch! She's a hen who couldn't lay eggs! She is infertile, so she's jealous that you can have Nevin's son!" "When I see that slut again next time, I'll teach her a lesson!" As they were speaking, the ward door was suddenly knocked on twice. "Is Irina Johnston here?" Several people in the ward turned around and saw two police officers entering. Nevin twisted his eyebrows and looked at the police with displeasure, feeling that there was nothing good going on. "What's the matter?" The police officers looked at Irina on the hospital bed and said, "The doctor said you will be discharged in three days. Please go to the police station for questioning then." After the notification, they turned around to leave. "Wait a minute." Irina stopped them and asked, "How are those thugs?" The officers stopped. "They are temporarily detained at the police station." "What about Renee?" "She didn't do anything. Of course, she was sent home. She will also come back to the police station in three days." Nevin was extremely dissatisfied with the result and cursed a few words with a gloomy face. Irina tightened her grip on the blanket, feeling even more uneasy. She didn't even know when the police officers had left. The current development of the matter was completely beyond her control. Would the police really uncover anything? No, it didn't matter if anything was found out. Now she was the biggest victim. Irina's back gradually relaxed as if she had suddenly decided something. A vicious light flashed in her eyes. ... Two days had passed, and Renee was still busy submitting her resume at home. But the resumes submitted were still like stones thrown into the sea. She received no response. Irina's warning seemed to still be effective. Renee supported her chin gloomily, gazing out the window at the blue sky, her thoughts gradually drifting away. She seemed to have not visited Gemma for a few days. Zarek said he had resettled Gemma in a sanatorium. Renee didn't know how Gemma was doing there. When Renee regained her senses, she had already gone downstairs. Rita was still at work and hadn't returned yet. Renee herself took a taxi on the roadside. The taxi stopped at the entrance of the sanatorium, and Renee got off. Looking at the luxurious sanatorium, which was like a private estate, she was stunned. Zarek didn't tell her Gemma was in such a private senior sanatorium. She thought it was just an ordinary sanatorium. To live here, money was not enough. Power was more needed. So those who could stay here were all celebrities in Riv City. Renee sighed. Now the debt she owed to Zarek was even heavier. She walked in and stopped at the front desk. "Hello, may I ask if Gemma Carson is here?" The nurse didn't answer but glanced at her and then at the computer as if comparing and confirming something. After a moment, the nurse seemed to have finally confirmed. She smiled professionally and said, "Are you Renee Johnston?" Rene nodded in surprise. She didn't expect the nurse to know her. The nurse also saw her surprise and explained with a smile, "Mr. Macleod specifically told us before. Please come with me." Renee was slightly stunned. She then followed the nurse and got in the elevator. Renee didn't know this sanatorium was an asset to the Macleod family. The elevator stopped on the third floor. The air in corridors here didn't smell as strong as the disinfectant in the hospital. Instead, there was valuable specially-made incense that made people relax as soon as they walked in and smelled. Renee stopped outside a ward with the nurse, who smiled and said, "Your mother is inside." Through the glass on the door, Renee saw Gemma sitting on a soft chair in front of the window, with her lonely back facing the door. She also saw Gemma's growing gray hair on the back of her brain. Wearing soft white cotton pajamas, Gemma sat quietly for a long time without noticing anyone coming. Renee's breath almost stopped, and her heart was filled with pain and suffocation. The nurse looked inside and smiled, explaining, "She has been like this lately. Sitting on that soft chair, basking in the sun, looking at the scenery outside the window. If it weren't for someone waking her up, she would stay there for a whole day." As the nurse spoke, she quickly turned the handle of the ward door, wanting to lead Renee inside to see her mother. But Renee stopped her hand immediately. Facing the nurse's puzzled gaze, Renee shook her head, her eyes desolate and gray. "She probably doesn't want to see me now. I'll break her peace and annoy her if I go in." The nurse was surprised to realize that Renee seemed to have a bad relationship with her mother. Since Renee had already said so, the nurse could only give up. "I'll go first. Please feel free to call me if there's anything you need." After the nurse left, Renee silently stood in front of the ward door for a long time. Until her calves were sore, she hung her head and silently turned to leave. However, she almost ran into a man's arms. She suddenly regained consciousness and hastily took two steps back, but she was still on her high heels. When she was about to fall, a strong arm hugged her waist in time and pulled her up. Renee was stunned, and her ears immediately blushed with embarrassment. She hurriedly said, "Thank you. Thank you." The man was tall and upright, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a white coat. He had an elegant smile, and his back was as straight as a pine. "Are you the family member of this lady inside? I am her doctor." Hearing about Gemma, Renee immediately asked with concern, "How is my mother?"
