CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX - The Engagement Party

Mason was silent for a long moment, his eyes fixed on the floor. When he finally looked up, Claire was surprised to see tears in his eyes. "I've been an idiot," he said, his voice hoarse. "Claire, I'm so sorry. I never meant to make you feel this way." He stood up, closing the distance between them. "The truth is, I'm terrified. This lawsuit... it could destroy everything I've worked for. Universe X isn't just a company to me, it's my life's work. The thought of losing it all, of being exposed as a fraud... it's been consuming me." Claire reached out, taking his hand in hers. "You're not a fraud, Mason. I know you didn't steal that software." Mason squeezed her hand. "I know I didn't, but sometimes... sometimes I wonder if I've been so focused on success that I've lost sight of what really matters." He looked into her eyes, his gaze intense. "You matter, Claire. More than Universe X, more than any amount of success or money. I've been a fool to forget that." Claire felt tears wel
