Chapter 24
Laurelle took a cab back to the Fletcher residence. The front door was shut. She rang the bell twice, and a maid cracked the door open, peeking out with surprise when she saw her.
"Ms. Fletcher, you're back?"
Laurelle nodded slightly and stepped inside.
The maid hesitated, then said, "Are you here to see Mrs. Fletcher? She's having a headache and is resting in her room. She doesn't want to see anyone."
Her eyes were filled with pity as she looked at Laurelle. Who would've thought that the legitimate daughter of the Fletcher family would have been sent to prison for three years? Laurelle was so thin—just skin and bones, it seemed. She must've suffered a lot there.
"I'm not here to see her. Where did my things from before get stored?" Laurelle asked.
The maid blinked, then quickly replied, "In the storage room."
Laurelle thanked her and made her way there. Everything of hers had been shoved into a small box in the corner of the storage room.
