57: Burning Flames

I stood there, trying to process Drake's unexpected intrusion into my personal space, and then footsteps echoed from the staircase. I looked in that direction, and Lewis was the one who had appeared.
"Drake, we've got to get ready for that conference meeting," he said, casting a brief glance at me.
Drake turned towards Lewis with a raised eyebrow. "Conference meeting?" He seemed momentarily distracted from whatever interrogation he had in store for me.
"Yeah, the one you're supposed to be preparing for," Lewis replied casually, his tone implying there was no room for argument.
Drake sighed, shooting me a fleeting look that said, "We'll continue this later," before turning to follow Lewis out of the room. As he left, I couldn't resist rolling my eyes. Drama always seemed to find its way into my life, no matter how hard I tried to avoid it.
