"Her voice trembled slightly as she spoke, 'Yes, I heard about the shooting. I was so worried when I saw your name. Are you both alright?'"
I reassured her, pulling back to look at her, "We're okay. Just a bit shaken. It's been a long night." Sasha, looking tired but grateful, gave my mother a small smile and said, "Thank you for your concern. We're just grateful to be safe now."
My mother nodded, her eyes still full of worry. "Thank goodness you're safe. Let's get you both settled. You look like you could use some rest."
We followed her into the living room, where she quickly set about making us comfortable. I sank into one of the plush sofas, feeling the exhaustion of the night catch up with me. Sasha sat down next to me, and my mother brought us some tea and blankets, trying to make us as comfortable as possible.
