Elizabeth asked, "You're back early for the holidays. Isn't Mr. Jefferson concerned about that?"
Hazel shook her head. "Not at all. He's always given me freedom, just like you. I can stay wherever I want, and my family's doors are always open."
Her thoughts drifted to her family.
Even in an old black-and-white photograph, Justine seemed to radiate warmth. Just looking into her eyes brought back memories of the comfort she had felt as a child. Peter, though getting older, always respected her, cherished her, and made her feel truly at ease.
